F. Habilis Troglodytes

Most Muppets are caricatures of real animals. Kermit is a caricature of a frog, Fozzie is a caricature of a bear, Miss Piggy... you get the idea.

Fraggles are abstract creatures. I like to describe them as psychedelic rodents. For fun, I tried to imagine what kind of creature could have inspired them. Hence this critter: Fraggle Habilis Troglodytes. These cave-living herbivores have thick, protective fur and strong fingers and toes for climbing and skittering around in caves. Their large, tarsier-like eyes are well adapted to dark conditions. Like cats and dogs, they come in many colors. They prefer the safety of caves, but when hungry enough they will come aboveground and raid gardens. They are at least as intelligent as chimps, and communicate with musical-sounding vocalizations. They are known to live in colonies of up to several dozen.

The face turned out kinda horsey, didn't it? That wasn't intentional; that just seems to be what I get when I draw a pronounced snout without a split lip or raised nose.
