Relay Race: Tik-Tok and Jack

"Jack, you can move much fast-er than I can. If you car-ry the mes-sage then they can send as-sis-tance that much soon-er. I will con-tin-ue a-long this path so I can spec-i-fy the des-tin-a-tion to them when we meet."

"All right!" Jack said, drawing himself up to his full gangly height.

"But first-" Jack had already sprinted off, his long legs pumping, and he did not hear. "-wind me up."

Tik-Tok watched as Jack raced off, and said in his emotionless monotone, "Drat." Then he continued marching steadily down the path. As his metronomic footsteps receded in the distance the sunset faded and stars appeared in the sky.
