My hero, Casper, found that he never existed. Baum hashed him into the story, just to blur the readers' thoughts at the idea that Nick Chopper's body parts were reassembled and married his girl -who turned out to be a shrew ! Tin Woodsman began to wonder, esp. since he never sleeps and has all night to ponder...,if he ever really was human. Whether memories were just downloaded into a metal brain.
As Tin SOLDIER is just a crowd extra in subsequent stories, it's easy to dismiss him as a Baum fiction. A number of stories Casper dismissed as fiction, apocrypha....
